To ensure a smooth and efficient service, please take the following steps before our crew arrives:

✔ Ensure a clear path to your pool and equipment – Remove any obstacles that might block access to your pool, pump, and filter system.
✔ Turn on all outdoor breakers – Ensure power is available for the pool pump, heater, and any other equipment that requires electricity.

Your pool opening takes place over two visits to ensure your pool is properly set up and chemically balanced for the season.
Day 1 – Initial Pool Opening & Setup
✔ Cover removal & cleaning – We pump off and scrub your cover before carefully removing it.
✔ Equipment setup – We set up and reconnect all pumps, filters, salt systems, and heaters (if water levels allow).
✔ Water testing – A water sample is taken and brought back to our shop for testing.
✔ Shocking the pool – We add an initial shock treatment to help kickstart water clarity.
✔ Water level check – If your water level is too low to run equipment, we will leave a note instructing you to fill it halfway up the skimmer.Day 2 – Water Balancing & System Activation (12–24 hours after Day 1)
✔ Equipment startup – Once the water level is at the skimmer, we return to start up your pool system.
✔ Chemical balancing – We bring and apply the necessary chemicals to balance your pool water.
✔ Opening kit delivery – Your pool opening kit is provided.Additional Notes:
Miscellaneous parts may be provided as needed, but any large or costly replacement parts will be discussed with you beforehand.

Drop-in steps are not installed as part of our services.
Pool heater startup is not included – This must be done by a licensed gas fitter.
By breaking the process into two visits, we ensure that your pool is properly set up and chemically balanced for a great start to the season.
-
A proper pool closing is essential to protect your pool from freezing temperatures, debris buildup, and potential damage during the winter months. Our professional pool closing service includes:
✔ Chemical closing kit application – We add winterizing chemicals to help keep your water clear and prevent algae growth during the off-season.
✔ Blowing out the lines – We remove water from pipes, skimmers, and return lines to prevent freezing and cracking.
✔ Winterizing pool equipment – Your pump, filter, heater, and salt system are properly winterized to protect against damage.
✔ Lowering water levels – Ensuring the correct water level to prevent freeze damage.
✔ Installing the winter cover – We securely install your pool cover to keep out debris and protect the water.
✔ Final system check – We ensure that everything is properly winterized for a smooth reopening next season.A proper closing extends the life of your pool, prevents costly repairs, and makes for an easier opening in the spring.
-
Failing to properly close your pool can lead to serious and costly damage. Without proper winterization, your pool is at risk for:
✔ Frozen and burst pipes – Water left in the plumbing can expand and crack pipes, leading to costly repairs.
✔ Damaged equipment – Pumps, filters, and heaters can freeze and break if not properly winterized.
✔ Algae growth and poor water quality – Without the right winter chemicals, your pool water can turn green and require extensive cleaning in the spring.
✔ Structural damage – Improper water levels can stress liners and pool walls, leading to potential cracks and leaks.A proper pool closing protects your investment, ensuring that everything is in good condition for an easy opening next season.
-
Yes! We service all pool types, including saltwater pools. Our closing process for saltwater pools includes:
✔ Winterizing the salt cell – Properly cleaning and storing your salt system to extend its lifespan.
✔ Blowing out lines and equipment – Ensuring no water remains in the plumbing to prevent freezing.
✔ Adding the correct winterizing chemicals – Saltwater pools require specific balancing before winter to protect against scaling and corrosion.
✔ Cover installation – Keeping out debris and preventing water contamination over the winter months.Whether your pool is chlorine, saltwater, or hybrid, our professional closing service ensures it’s properly winterized and protected for the off-season.
-
You can close your pool anytime of year, but most pool owners choose to close between September 1st and the end of October.
✔ Early closings (September-October) – Helps prevent algae growth and protects equipment before temperatures drop.
✔ Late closings (after October) – Increases the risk of freezing temperatures, which can damage pool equipment and plumbing.Leaving your pool open past October can be risky, as freezing water in your pipes, pump, or filter can cause cracks and costly damage. For the best protection, we recommend scheduling your pool closing before freezing temperatures set in.
-
You can open your pool anytime of the year, but most pool owners choose to open between mid-April and late June.
✔ April - May – Ideal for early-season swimmers who want to ensure their pool is clean and balanced before summer.
✔ June – Many pool owners prefer to open just before the warmest months to maximize swim time.
✔ March (for the bold swimmers!) – Some of our more adventurous customers open as early as March, but this is not recommended unless you have a heater to keep the water above freezing at night. For easier maintenance and fewer algae problems, we recommend opening your pool earlier rather than later. The longer your pool stays covered in warm weather, the higher the risk of algae growth and cloudy water.
-

-
If you suspect something isn’t right with your pool, it’s best to have it checked before a small issue becomes a bigger problem. Signs that your pool may need repairs include:
✔ Struggling to fight algae – Persistent algae growth despite proper chemical treatments
✔ Sand at the bottom of the pool – Could indicate a filter issue or a leak in the system
✔ Random error codes – Malfunctioning equipment, such as pumps, heaters, or automation systems
✔ Poor water circulation or low pressure – Could signal a pump or plumbing issue
✔ Unusual noises or leaks – Often a sign that a component needs replacementIf you notice any of these issues, we can send a crew out to troubleshoot your equipment and determine if any repairs are needed.
-
The timeline for pool repairs depends on several factors, including the complexity of the repair, the availability of parts, and whether multiple issues are present.
Our crews work efficiently and cost-effectively to diagnose and fix the issue as quickly as possible without compromising quality. However, some repairs require step-by-step troubleshooting, especially when multiple underlying problems are present. In these cases, we will work through each issue methodically to ensure your pool is fully repaired and operating at peak performance.
For urgent repairs, contact us as soon as possible so we can assess your situation and schedule your service accordingly.
-
Yes, we do! We service all types of pools, including saltwater, chlorine, and hybrid systems. Our technicians are experienced in troubleshooting and repairing salt cells, control panels, pumps, and filtration systems to keep your saltwater pool running efficiently.
If you're experiencing low chlorine production, error codes, or poor water circulation, we can diagnose and fix the issue to restore your pool's performance.
-
If you suspect your pool is leaking, we first recommend confirming whether it's an actual leak or just evaporation. During the summer, evaporation can cause water levels to drop quickly, leading to concerns about leaks.
Steps to Check for a Leak:
Look for visible signs of water loss – Check around the pool for water pooling, wet spots, or water behind the liner. If you find anything, take pictures and send them to our office so we can help assess the severity of the issue.
Perform the bucket test to rule out evaporation:
Fill a bucket with water and place it beside your pool.
Use tape to mark the water level on both the pool and the bucket.
Leave the bucket for 24 hours and check the water levels.
If the pool’s water level drops significantly more than the bucket, it’s likely a leak.
If you confirm a leak, we can send a crew to help locate and fix the issue or, in more complex cases, refer you to a leak detection specialist.
-
Yes, we patch liners; however, the decision between repairing or replacing depends on the age and condition of your liner. If your liner is older, brittle, or has multiple leaks, a full replacement may be the better long-term solution.
If a replacement is needed, we can:
✔ Measure your pool to ensure a perfect fit
✔ Help you select a new liner from our available patterns
✔ Professionally install your new liner for a seamless finishFor more details, we recommend visiting our Liners Page to view our current liner options. If you’re unsure whether to repair or replace, contact our office, and our staff will be happy to guide you through your options.
-
Yes, we do offer emergency pool repairs, but we do not provide 24-hour service. Emergency repairs are scheduled into the next available slot, which means it could be a few days before we can arrive. Our crews typically do not work weekends, but rest assured, if you call and we can’t get to you immediately, we will follow up as soon as possible.
What You Can Do While Waiting for Emergency Service:
✔ Keep your pool topped up – Low water levels can cause additional strain on your equipment.
✔ Turn off equipment if necessary – If you suspect a leak, electrical issue, or pump failure, turning off the affected equipment can prevent further damage.
✔ Skim and brush the pool manually – Keeping the surface clean can help slow down algae growth.
✔ Check for visible issues – If you can identify a problem, take photos and send them to our office, so we can better assist you.
✔ Call our office for troubleshooting assistance – Our staff can walk you through basic troubleshooting over the phone to help you buy time until our crew arrives. -
Pool repair costs can vary greatly depending on the type of repair, the complexity of the issue, and whether multiple factors are at play. Our crews work methodically and efficiently to diagnose and fix the issue in the most cost-effective way possible.
If the root cause of the problem is unclear, multiple repairs may be necessary. Our technicians will work from the most likely scenario to the least likely based on the evidence on hand, ensuring we only recommend necessary repairs to get your pool back in working order.
For an estimate, we recommend scheduling a diagnostic visit, so we can assess your pool’s specific needs.

Pool Builds & Rebuilds FAQ!
-
Yes, in most cases, a permit is required to build a pool. However, you don’t need to worry about handling it alone. We will guide you through the entire process, ensuring that any required permits and paperwork are properly completed. Our team will work with you to make sure your pool build follows all local regulations and zoning requirements, ensuring a smooth and stress-free installation.
-
The choice between these three pool types is mostly a personal preference, but several important factors may influence your decision, including:
✔ Land size and available space – Larger properties may be better suited for in-ground or on-ground pools, while smaller spaces may benefit from an above-ground option.
✔ Landscape and terrain – If your property is heavily sloped, an on-ground pool can be a great option, as it can be partially installed in the ground for a more built-in look.
✔ Existing yard setup – Consider how a new pool will integrate with current landscaping, patios, or decks. Some pool types may complement your outdoor space better than others.
✔ Underground utilities – The presence of underground wiring, pipes, or septic systems may impact where and how a pool can be installed.
✔ Budget – In-ground pools are the most expensive but offer the highest level of customization and longevity. On-ground pools are a mid-range option, and above-ground pools are the most affordable with quicker installation.
✔ Long-term plans – If you’re planning to sell your home in the future, an in-ground or on-ground pool may add value, while an above-ground pool provides flexibility as it can be removed or upgraded.
✔ Usage and lifestyle – If you're looking for a resort-style backyard experience, an in-ground pool offers the most customization. If you want something more temporary or seasonal, an above-ground pool may be a better fit.Not sure which pool type is right for you? We can help assess your property and guide you toward the best option for your needs.
-
The timeline for a pool build or rebuild can vary depending on several factors, including:
✔ Scope of the project – Larger, more complex pools with custom features will take longer to complete.
✔ Permitting and approvals – Some areas require permits before construction begins, which can add time to the process.
✔ Supply availability – If specific materials or equipment are in high demand or backordered, this may cause delays.
✔ Weather conditions – Rain, extreme temperatures, or unexpected weather changes can impact construction timelines.
✔ Site preparation – If major excavation, grading, or leveling is needed before installation, this can extend the timeline.
✔ Underground obstructions – If there are unforeseen obstacles, such as buried electrical lines, plumbing, or bedrock, additional adjustments may be required.Generally speaking, above-ground pools have the fastest installation, often completed in a matter of days to a week, while on-ground and in-ground pools can take several weeks to months depending on complexity.
Once we assess your project, we’ll provide you with a clear timeline so you’ll know what to expect from start to finish.

-
A pool rebuild is typically needed when there is severe damage to the existing pool or if you're looking to modernize and significantly upgrade your pool’s appearance and functionality. If your pool has major structural issues, outdated equipment, or extensive wear and tear, a rebuild may be the best long-term solution.
However, in some cases, targeted repairs may be enough to restore your pool without the need for a full rebuild.
✔ If your pool has minor leaks, equipment malfunctions, or isolated damage, repairs may be the best option.
✔ If your pool has extensive cracking, failing plumbing, or is outdated beyond simple fixes, a rebuild is likely the better choice. We can send a crew to assess your current pool condition and provide an expert recommendation on whether repairs or a rebuild would be the most cost-effective solution for you.

-
The cost of a pool rebuild varies based on several factors, including:
✔ Scope of the project – A basic resurfacing will cost less than a full structural rebuild.
✔ Upgrades and customizations – Adding waterfalls, lighting, automation, or new decking will impact the overall price.
✔ Pool size and shape – Larger or more complex pool designs may require more materials and labor.
✔ Condition of existing pool – Pools with severe structural damage, failing plumbing, or outdated electrical systems may require extensive work.
✔ Material selection – Higher-end finishes like custom tile, premium liners, or advanced filtration systems may increase costs.
✔ Permit requirements and site conditions – Some projects require permits, excavation, or reinforcement, which can affect pricing.Every pool rebuild is unique, so we recommend scheduling an on-site assessment where we can provide a detailed estimate based on your specific needs and goals.
-
The timeline for a pool rebuild depends on several factors, including:
✔ Supply availability – If specific materials or equipment are delayed, it may extend the timeline.
✔ Weather conditions – Rain, extreme temperatures, or unexpected weather changes can impact progress.
✔ Complexity of the job – A simple liner replacement will take much less time than a full structural overhaul or major equipment upgrades. While smaller rebuilds may take a few weeks, larger, more complex projects can take several weeks to months. Once we assess your pool, we’ll provide a detailed timeline so you know what to expect.
-
Yes, you can modify your pool’s shape or depth during a rebuild, but it requires significant structural work and can be more costly than standard renovations.
✔ Depth changes – You can make your pool shallower or deeper, but this involves excavation, reworking plumbing, and reinforcing the pool structure.
✔ Shape modifications – Expanding or reshaping a pool requires major reconstruction, including new framing, resurfacing, and potential deck adjustments. While it’s a larger investment, our team can help you redesign your pool to match your vision, ensuring a high-quality transformation that enhances your backyard space.

Above-ground pools are one of the fastest pool types to install. Once all preemptive work is completed (such as site preparation) and materials have arrived, installation typically takes a couple of days.
Factors that can affect the timeline include:
✔ Site preparation – If the ground needs leveling or additional prep work, this may add time.
✔ Weather conditions – Heavy rain or extreme weather can delay installation.

No, a concrete pad is not typically required for an above-ground pool. Instead, the pool is installed on a leveled sand base, which provides:
✔ A soft surface that protects the liner and is comfortable underfoot.
✔ Even weight distribution to prevent structural stress on the pool.
✔ A natural cushion that helps prevent punctures or damage to the liner. However, if you prefer a more permanent or reinforced foundation, a concrete or foam base can be an option. Our team will assess your site and recommend the best setup for your specific pool.

Yes, absolutely! Many pool owners choose to add a custom deck around their above-ground pool for improved accessibility and aesthetics. While Hoppe’s Pool & Spa does not typically build decks ourselves, we are happy to assist you by recommending trusted contractors who specialize in pool decking.
Things to consider when adding a deck:
✔ Material options – Wood, composite, or stone decking can complement your pool.
✔ Height & access – Full wrap-around decks or partial entry decks can be designed to fit your space.
✔ Safety features – Adding railings, gates, or non-slip surfaces improves usability.
✔ Permit requirements – Some areas may require permits for deck construction. If you’re considering a deck for your above-ground pool, let us know—we can help guide you in the right direction.

An above-ground pool requires the same general maintenance as any other pool, but typically on a smaller scale due to its reduced water volume. Regular maintenance includes:
✔ Water testing & balancing – Ensuring proper pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels.
✔ Filtration system upkeep – Cleaning or replacing filters as needed to maintain water clarity.
✔ Skimming & vacuuming – Removing debris and dirt from the water and pool walls.
✔ Liner care – Checking for signs of wear, leaks, or punctures to prevent damage.
✔ Seasonal maintenance – Prepping the pool for opening in the spring and closing in the fall to protect it from weather-related damage. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and one-time maintenance services to help keep your above-ground pool in top condition. If you need assistance, contact us to schedule your maintenance plan.

An above-ground pool can last many years with proper care and maintenance. The most common component that needs replacement is the liner, which typically lasts 7 to 15 years, depending on usage and upkeep.
✔ Pool walls & frame – If well-maintained and protected from rust, the structure of your pool can last decades.
✔ Liner lifespan – Expect to replace your liner every 7 to 15 years, depending on exposure to sun, chemicals, and wear.
✔ Equipment longevity – Pumps, filters, and heaters may need replacement over time, but regular maintenance extends their lifespan.By keeping up with routine cleaning, proper water balance, and seasonal maintenance, you can significantly extend the life of your above-ground pool.

Not typically. Above-ground pools are not designed to be buried or structurally reinforced like on-ground or in-ground pools. Their walls lack the necessary support to withstand underground pressure, and attempting to convert one could lead to structural failure.
If you're considering upgrading to an on-ground or in-ground pool, the best option is to replace your above-ground pool entirely. However, depending on the size and volume of your current pool, you may be able to reuse some of your existing equipment, such as the pump or filter system. In most cases, though, you will likely need to upgrade your equipment to accommodate the larger water capacity of an on-ground or in-ground pool.
If you're ready to make the switch, our team can help you plan the best upgrade path for your backyard.

No, the above-ground pools we install are permanent, year-round structures and are not meant to be taken down for the winter. Many people confuse these with inflatable or easy-set pools found at retailers like Walmart or Canadian Tire—those are temporary pools, but the ones we work with are built to last.
However, proper winterization is essential to protect your pool from freezing temperatures. This includes:
✔ Draining water to the correct level
✔ Blowing out lines and winterizing equipment
✔ Adding winterizing chemicals
✔ Installing a winter cover to prevent debris buildupWe offer professional pool closing services to ensure your above-ground pool is properly protected for the off-season. To learn more, visit our Pool Opening & Closing Services page.

Yes! Converting an above-ground pool to a saltwater system is a straightforward process and something we do regularly. Saltwater pools offer several benefits, including softer water, lower chlorine maintenance, and reduced chemical costs.
The conversion process typically involves:
✔ Installing a saltwater chlorinator (salt cell system) – This device turns salt into natural chlorine.
✔ Ensuring your pool's liner and components are saltwater-compatible – Most modern above-ground pools can handle saltwater, but some older metal components may require upgrades.
✔ Adding the proper amount of salt – Based on your pool's size, we balance the salt levels for optimal performance. Our team can handle the full conversion process for you, making sure your saltwater system is properly installed and balanced for efficient, hassle-free operation.
